20 Hour Famine

A variety of people all round the world are participating in the 40 hour famine. Tonight kids are here at school to discover what the other kids from the other side of the world have to deal with. We are going 20 hours with no food. We are also here to fund raise some money that will get donated to them. Another challenge that my friends and I set for ourselves is to try and not talk! It's been nearly a whole day and we haven't really succeeded. Some of us are really hungry. You also have teams there is Blue, Red, Yellow and green my team is blue.

Over on the other side of the world people don't have clean water and barely have enough food. So they are always hungry and thirsty. Most of the food they get are the food on the ground. Plus they can catch diseases from the food on the ground. That means they might die. But that isn't even half of the problem! Sometimes they have to eat raw food to survive and some of the food are rice. Have you ever had to eat raw food!? Well these people sometimes have to eat food to survive. Did you know that every day a kid dies! Well what would you do if you lived somewhere where you only got food 2-3 times a week. For Me, Horrible!

Well now you have got an example of what it would be like living with no food." Go hard out for the Hungry! Maybe you would like to go to their website here is the link http://www.famine.org.nz/Default.aspx

FEAR FALL!!!

Waiting with my dad in a long line, I realised the FEAR FALL was approaching!! I squeezed my knuckles and turned around to run away. “DAD DAD I DON’T WANT TO GO !!” I shouted “It’s too late” he said.
Tears ran down my face. The ride slowly went up to the top, I tried to catch my breath. Looking down at the ground, I was up so high. As the ride plummeted, my life flashed before my eyes!!!

Candy World

My world is made out of candy. The clouds are candy floss and the sun is a giant big peach. It rains colorful jellybeans from the sky.

The Water

We slipped into the pool. Under the sparkly water my eyes were stinging red. I jumped off the bottom to blink away the burn.

Here is my group's movie of Timetables. In my group is Thea, Jordenne and Lesieli. I hope you enjoy!

Sentence Beginnings

In Room 13 we are learning about the features of a paragraph. One of of the important things about a paragraph is sentence beginnings. So we read Toreka Tele'a's story about Cross Country called What An Ambush then we highlighted the beginnings of her sentences. Then we copied then pasted it to Wordle.net to give us an idea of the beginnings she has used.

Marble Run

Getting ready for our challenge I thought in my mind that it was going to be easy but guess what it wasn’t. But before we go over the mistakes let me tell you what happened. Me and my group were working out what to do but we were building our trap too.
Kashya brought a brick and I thought we could use it for the beginning for the trap. So we attached rolls to the brick to make a slide for the marble. It was great for the beginning next was some dominoes for the marble to hit and another marble will be hit and will go into the toilet paper roll.
Again it will hit dominoes then it’s done, but it didn’t work so that was a mistake. We changed what didn’t work so that is pretty much everything, we were in the process of trail and error. The 2nd time we used a spoon, a brick, the scissors box and dominoes. First we put on the slide on the scissor box so we can make the marble hit the dominoes and it will hit another marble next it will hit a spoon and the spoon will trap the marble. It didn’t work we tried and tried but it didn’t work. We used clear communication and it kinda came together. It worked can you believe that but sadly Miss King didn’t film it or see it ether. So we had to build it again. While we were building the trap I said “okay, we have to build this quickly”. Our trap was not working but it was alright at least we tried but we can try again. We didn’t finish the trap but Miss King said we can try again next time.

Straw Bridges

Do you remember the time I told you about Straw Towers? Well, today instead of Straw Towers we made Straw Bridges. Miss King first told about triangles and how they make bridges and towers stronger. Next Miss King gave us straws and told us to make triangles. My group and I were making triangle really fast but it wasn’t messy. Others were just starting but we finished our triangles. It was really easy and we had no problems we had no fights at all we were all friendly, we worked together as a team. After we did our triangles we stuck the triangles to long straws. I thought it was going to be impossible but it turned out to be great we finished it off and we were ready. Miss King said “okay it is time to test your bridge” so we went to these two chairs then we put our straw bridge on the two chairs. I was very nervous that I was shivering but when Miss King put the block on the bridge it worked out very very well. So we were very lucky.

Tornado

Yesterday at 3pm was a very destructive and frightening TORNADO! It was in Albany on Auckland’s North Shore. It was very powerful. There have been reports about cars being flipped over and roofs being ripped off. Lots of people were panicking and were in chaos. The Tornado was like a jet-engine descending. The damage was deadly and people said they were going to close the Harbour bridge. The tornado struck the Mitre Ten destroying a building that was in the process of already being demolished.

Straw Tower

Do you think you can build a straw tower that is stable, only using scissors, tape and straws? Well that is what Room 13 did. We made straw towers to introduce us to our topic. First we had to get in to a group of 6 I had Kashya, Aldora, Ana, Thea and Josephine. While we were planing we were fighting and arguing I thought we weren’t going to finish our tower but we started to communicate better and we started to get better and better. We thought of creativity and we were communicating and it started to get way better then before.
