Wahine Painting made by Robyn Kahukiwa
In Extension, we learnt about New Zealand illustrators which lead to New Zealand artists. Robyn Kahukiwa!
We interpreted her painting (Wahine) and created our own version. Once we did that, we had to create a short movie about this painting. I hope you like my movie.

Abseiling (Camp Bentzon)
Camp is sadly over and I am so bummed out! With delicious food cooked by Mr Coop, and friends playing during free time, I definitely didn’t want to leave. But it’s over now so it’s time for a recap.
Loads of activities had me excited but there’s was one that I had fun doing the most. ABSEILING! Awaiting my turn, I looked upwards at the abseiling wall, petrified. “Not the greatest activity for me” I thought (I was afraid of heights). Although, we were given a choice to do the big wall or the small wall.
After a LOT of thinking I decided to take the big wall. Even though, I feared heights, camp was all about having fun, overcoming our fears and doing our best. So I gave a shot. It was finally my turn. Anxiously climbing up the ladder, one of the guide lines, we were taught was 3 points of contact. At the top, I looked down, feeling as if the wall was a never ending. Camilla had hooked me with ropes and the harness.
“I want you to put your heels over the edge” Camilla instructed. Over the edge my heels stayed, I spread my legs a little and Camilla said “Lean back”. It was at that moment that I knew I would be overcoming my fear soon. After a while, Camilla told me “You are now hanging over the edge”. From hearing this I was so thrilled and it was time to walk down the wall. When I got down, I was incredibly proud of myself.
This was just one of activities and it was AWESOME!! Camp was so fun and it was a once in lifetime thing.

YEAR 6 CAMP!!!
Can you believe it? YEAR 6 Camp is nearly here! Just one day to go and I am very excited.
First on a bus, then onto Ferry. Off we would go to Kawau Island! With beautiful animals and green trees, I definitely can’t hold this excitement.
Awesome activities, I would expect. Like: ABseiling which is where we have to climb up then with a harness walk down backwards. It seems really fun! Making rafts are one of the things I am looking forward to! We are given equipment and we have to create a raft. Once we have done that, we have to paddle out into the sea and around pontoon and back before your raft falls apart.
Another activity I can’t wait for is the Confidence Course. This will be such a high up, scary yet fun activity. One of the parts of the course is the Flying Fox. Flying through the bushes and trees, looking down at the ground as if I am giant.
I think the challenge for me in this camp will be the item. This is because we are not provided music. Apparently, there is no internet, no phones or technology. Although it will be fun to come up with a song or a dance.
Overall, I am so glad camp is coming up. I really can’t wait!

Couplet Poem about Summer and Camp
SUMMER:
Clear crystal water sparkling in the sun
Playing in the sand, everyone has fun
Huge waves crash into the rocks
In the water floating, are my socks
Wind blows by, I fly my kite
But I couldn’t see with the sun so bright
CAMP:
Looking forward to camp
Up the hills, we would tramp
No school for 4 days
Just relaxing in the sunshine rays
On the Concourse, I would swing
Careful, not to fall on something
Clear crystal water sparkling in the sun
Playing in the sand, everyone has fun
Huge waves crash into the rocks
In the water floating, are my socks
Wind blows by, I fly my kite
But I couldn’t see with the sun so bright
CAMP:
Looking forward to camp
Up the hills, we would tramp
No school for 4 days
Just relaxing in the sunshine rays
On the Concourse, I would swing
Careful, not to fall on something

Operation Flax
Freya and her mother’s new neighbor, Mrs Harper is going to remove the flax. “It’s a nuisance” she says. She is unable to go up or down her driveway. This is a problem for Freya and her mum because they love this flax. Mum uses the flax that through the fence to make baskets and ketes and Freya makes syrup for the tui.
Although Mrs Harper feels sad for them, she does not change her mind. Freya and her mum then decide to try and persuade Mrs Harper by giving her a kete. Creating syrup, Freya put it in the other side of the fence, where Mrs Harper lives.
Mrs Harper loves the kete, suddenly 2 tui walk by to the syrup. “Come and look at this Terry!” Mrs Harper shouted. A man on a wheel chair comes outside and stares at the Tui. He hasn’t seen tui in a long time. On Friday afternoon, Mrs Harper pops by Freya and her mum and explains the digger is going to plant the flax at the back of her section. Terry enjoyed the tui so she decided to keep the flax.
